I read an article about how modern (some Christians) tend to neglect the concept of the devil, demons, and true evil. They are often dismissed by other natural phenomena such as mental illness or disease. And although these things can make a person normal addition to committing an evil act, they have a medical reason behind him.
That said, many reject the supernatural to psychological reasons, after all, Witch Doctoring fallen for centuries before. We too modern and civilized believe such nonsense in those days.
How this idea is so popular? Pride. Pride in our understanding of scientific reasoning. Our mentality has given up the science that is enabled (at least in modern thought) to make judgments that are beyond their competence. Science can not observe and report on natural phenomena. It has the ability to assess the supernatural events, because they are not in the field of scientific knowledge.
A few years ago, psychiatrist M. Scott Peck, trying to understand evil. He had seen the manifestations of evil in his patients and tried to understand how a human could behave in this way. It was not until he was introduced to a deliverance ministry in a church where an exorcism was going on, who heard the case and pure reason, the real wrong. He wrote books about him.
While many Christians came to him and buy his books, she does not speak of a modern man prayed, "Send us one of the pigs, let us go. "He gave them permission, and the evil spirits went out to the pigs. The herd of about two thousand, rushed to the steep bank on the lake and drowned. "(Mark 5:12-13 NIV)
On the other side of the coin Too many Christians see a demon under every rock, and give credit to the devil for everything bad that happens. CS Lewis, has warned in his book The Screwtape Letters persons error in one of two ways. Rejected outright, or the devil, or give too much credit.
Bad effect exists. The devil and demons are real, and people who bear the Imago Dei cause to commit atrocities. Cults are created in the counterfeiting of the Gospel and attract people away from the truth. We know and believe that supernatural forces exist and are real. We mine the truth of the Word of God and live an exemplary life who deny the devil and his cronies the opportunity to slander us (cf. I Peter 3:16).
Just remember that although the devil is real, we have someone who loves us and has purchased with His precious blood. "Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: for he that is in you is greater than in the world." (I John 4:4 NIV)
Amen.
